On the morning of April 16, Malaysia’s King Ibrahim held a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the National Palace in Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur in April is bathed in bright sunshine and lush greenery.

Ibrahim hosted a grand welcoming ceremony for Xi Jinping at the National Palace Square.

Upon President Xi Jinping’s arrival by motorcade, Prime Minister Ibrahim and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar warmly greeted him at the disembarkation point. The two heads of state then ascended the reviewing stand, where the military band played the national anthems of China and Malaysia, followed by a 21-gun salute. President Xi Jinping inspected the guard of honor. Subsequently, the two leaders entered the State Palace Hall and exchanged handshakes with their respective entourages.

Following the welcoming ceremony, Xi Jinping met with Ibrahim.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Malaysia are good neighbors, good friends, and good partners, maintaining frequent exchanges and enjoying a close, family-like bond. Over the past half-century, bilateral relations have undergone remarkable development and are now poised for an even brighter future. I stand ready to work together with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim to steer China-Malaysia relations toward long-term, stable development, jointly build a high-level, strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future, write a new chapter of good-neighborly friendship and solidarity and cooperation, and usher in a new “Golden 50 Years” for China-Malaysia relations.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China and Malaysia should continuously deepen political mutual trust and provide mutual support on issues concerning each other’s core interests and major concerns. They should further align their development strategies, leverage their respective strengths to achieve complementary advantages and mutually beneficial outcomes, and jointly advance along the path of modernization. Efforts should be made to successfully implement major projects such as the “Two Countries, Two Parks” initiative and the East Coast Rail Link, while promptly fostering cooperation in emerging industries of the future, including artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and the green economy. China welcomes more high-quality Malaysian agricultural products to enter the Chinese market and encourages Chinese enterprises to invest and establish businesses in Malaysia. China stands ready to work with Malaysia to promote the “Confucian–Islamic Civilizations Dialogue” and to expand cooperation in culture, tourism, and education, thereby enhancing people-to-people bonds between the two countries. China supports Malaysia’s role as the ASEAN Chair and is committed to working with Malaysia to implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, so as to promote the joint self-reliance and common development of the Global South and to inject greater certainty and positive energy into the region and the world.

Ibrahim stated that President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Malaysia is a momentous event in bilateral relations, fully demonstrating the high level of Malaysia-China ties. His own successful visit to China last September remains vividly etched in his memory. He expressed confidence that President Xi’s current visit to Malaysia will comprehensively elevate bilateral relations and vigorously advance cooperation across all fields. China’s remarkable development achievements are attributable to President Xi’s far-sighted vision and the diligent efforts of the Chinese people. Malaysia attaches great importance to its relations with China and, regardless of how the international situation evolves, will work hand in hand for mutual benefit and win-win outcomes, thereby advancing the building of a high-level strategic community with a shared future. Malaysia places great emphasis on regional economic integration, firmly supports the Belt and Road Initiative, and stands ready to strengthen trade and investment cooperation with China, jointly stabilize industrial and supply chains, enhance connectivity, and intensify educational and cultural exchanges. Malaysia highly commends the recent Central Conference on Peripheral Affairs convened by China and underscores the important role China plays in addressing global and regional challenges. As the ASEAN Chair and the coordinator of ASEAN–China relations, Malaysia is committed to further developing ASEAN–China ties and jointly forging a peaceful and prosperous future.

Following the meeting, Xi Jinping attended a welcoming banquet hosted by Ibrahim.

Cai Qi, Wang Yi, Wang Xiaohong, and others attended the aforementioned events.
