Recalling the Glorious Past: A Journey Through Red Heritage

To thoroughly implement the Party’s educational policy and carry forward the Party’s fine traditions and work style, from November 1 to 2, the Party branch of Wuchan Daofu organized its members to visit Jing County in Xuancheng, Anhui Province. The delegation toured the Memorial Cemetery for the Martyrs of the Wannan Incident, the former site of the New Fourth Army Headquarters in Yunling, and the historic village of Chaji, where they revisited revolutionary history and upheld the spirit of struggle. Shen Lixia, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairperson of Wuchan Zhongda International Trade Group as well as Chairperson of Wuchan Daofu, and Yuan Wenjiong, Co-Chairperson and General Manager of Wuchan Daofu, took part in the activity.

On the morning of the 1st, Party members first visited the Memorial Cemetery for the Martyrs of the Wannan Incident, a memorial complex erected to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the martyrdom of the New Fourth Army soldiers in that tragic event. That day happened to be marked by a chilly autumn rain, with the pines sighing mournfully and the vegetation seeming steeped in sorrow. Led by a docent, the Party members toured the Memorial Square, the Memorial Hall, the Stele Corridor, and other sites, deeply learning about the revolutionary struggles in the Wannan region, the historical context surrounding the Wannan Incident, and the heroic figures who fought there. Inside the Memorial Hall, they stood in neat formation, bowed in solemn tribute, and laid flowers in honor of the revolutionary martyrs. Subsequently, before the main memorial stele inscribed with the words “The Martyrs Who Died in the Wannan Incident Shall Live Forever,” Zhou Na, Secretary of the Party Branch, led all Party members in raising their right hands and reciting the Party Oath once again: “I voluntarily join the Communist Party of China, uphold the Party’s program, abide by the Party Constitution, and fulfill my duties as a Party member…” Each sacred and resolute oath further strengthened the resolve of the vast majority of Party members to dedicate their lives to the cause of communism.

In the afternoon, everyone visited the Memorial Hall of the Former Headquarters of the New Fourth Army at Yunling, one of China’s eight most important historical sites from the modern and contemporary eras. Within the memorial hall, weathered relics of battle, precious wartime photographs, and detailed textual explanations vividly bring to life the modern revolutionary history of the People’s Republic of China. With deep reverence, participants attentively listened to accounts of the heroic deeds of revolutionary martyrs, then toured the former headquarters buildings, including the command post and the assembly hall, gaining a thorough understanding of the arduous breakout of the New Fourth Army in southern Anhui and profoundly appreciating the unwavering conviction of their revolutionary predecessors to dedicate their lives to the cause of communism.

On the morning of the second day, everyone visited and toured Chaji Ancient Village. As the largest extant Ming and Qing–era ancient village in China, Chaji still boasts more than 140 historic buildings spanning a wide range of architectural types, earning it the reputation as a living museum of traditional architecture. Strolling along the village’s stone-paved streets, gazing at quaint little bridges, gently flowing streams, closely packed traditional dwellings, and solemn ancestral halls, the Party members not only appreciated the beauty of these historic structures and the timeless charm of the ancient village but also deepened their awareness of the importance of safeguarding and passing down traditional culture. Today, Chaji Ancient Village is vividly putting into practice General Secretary Xi Jinping’s “Two Mountains” theory—that “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”—by leveraging its outstanding ecological and cultural environment to attract numerous painters and tourists from across the country. This has effectively boosted the local tourism industry, breathing new life into the ancient village in the new era.

During the visit to southern Anhui, participants profoundly experienced the noble revolutionary spirit of their forebears—their unwavering courage in the face of hardship and adversity and their steadfast pursuit of truth. This deepened party members’ patriotic sentiments and significantly enhanced their understanding and respect for China’s fine traditional culture. Party members unanimously agreed that this was a highly meaningful patriotic education and a precious “immersive” spiritual cleansing. They pledged to earnestly implement the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, integrate the glorious traditions of their revolutionary predecessors into their daily work and life, keep their original aspiration and mission firmly in mind, and contribute their efforts to the company’s development.
