Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin Jointly Meet the Press

Local time At noon on May 8, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks at the Kremlin in Moscow and then jointly addressed the press.

Xi Jinping pointed out that just now, he held in-depth, friendly, and fruitful talks with President Vladimir Putin, reaching many new and important consensuses. Together, we signed the “Agreement between the People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation on Commemorating the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union, and the Founding of the United Nations” On the occasion of the 80th anniversary, the Joint Statement on Further Deepening the China-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership of Coordination for a New Era was issued, and the exchange of multiple cooperation documents between relevant departments of the two countries was witnessed, injecting new momentum into the development of China-Russia relations.

Xi Jinping emphasized that Russia is the country I have visited most often in my capacity as President of the People’s Republic of China—this marks my eleventh visit. Tomorrow, I will attend the commemoration of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union. The 80th-anniversary celebration marks my return to this grand commemorative event after a decade. The past ten years have been a period of profound upheaval and transformation in the international landscape, yet also a time of remarkable progress and breakthroughs in China-Russia relations. Together, we have witnessed the continuous consolidation and deepening of political mutual trust between our two countries, as well as the steady and ever-accelerating expansion of cooperation across all fields. In the face of sweeping changes in the world, in our times, and in history, China and Russia must steadfastly steer the course of our bilateral relationship and align with the overarching trends of human societal development. We must rise to the occasion, assume our responsibilities, and engage in comprehensive collaboration, so as to make new and even greater contributions to the revitalization and development of our respective countries and to the upholding of international fairness and justice.

We must uphold friendship across generations and be true friends forged in the crucible of time. Eighty years ago, confronted by the menacing claws of militarism and Nazism, the armed forces and peoples of China and Russia united in common resolve and fought side by side, writing a magnificent and deeply moving chapter in history. The great friendship forged through the crucible of blood and fire has laid a solid foundation for the high-level development of bilateral relations. China and Russia must deepen political mutual trust, strengthen strategic coordination, and propel their bilateral ties toward an even more mature and resilient future.

We must uphold mutual benefit and win-win outcomes and be good partners who help each other achieve success. From the Second World War, when China and Russia braved immense hardships to exchange vast quantities of urgently needed supplies, to the present day, with bilateral trade repeatedly reaching new highs, China-Russia mutually beneficial cooperation has “High-speed trains” have traversed mountains and valleys, scaled steep gradients and surmounted obstacles, embarking on an extraordinary journey. China and Russia should continue to deepen practical cooperation across all fields, consolidate the material foundation of their comprehensive strategic partnership, deliver ever greater benefits to the peoples of both countries, and inject stronger momentum into global development.

We must uphold fairness and justice and serve as defenders of the international order. As the principal theaters of war in Asia and Europe during World War II, China and Russia made decisive contributions to the victory of the global anti-fascist struggle and laid the cornerstone for the postwar international order. As stable, constructive, and progressive forces in the international community, China and Russia should continue to stand firmly side by side, resolutely safeguard the UN-centered international system and the international order based on international law, and steadily advance a more equal and orderly multipolar world.

We must uphold solidarity and mutual assistance and serve as leaders in global governance. The future and destiny of the world should be jointly shaped by all nations, and the fruits of global development should be shared by all. As major world powers and important emerging market economies, China and Russia both bear the noble mission of advancing global governance toward greater fairness and reasonableness. The two countries should strengthen cooperation on multilateral platforms such as the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the BRICS, steadfastly uphold true multilateralism, steer global governance in the right direction, and promote an inclusive and beneficial economic globalization.

Xi Jinping emphasized that, in the face of a complex and volatile international landscape, China and Russia must steadfastly uphold the spirit of enduring good-neighborly friendship, comprehensive strategic coordination, and mutually beneficial, win-win cooperation; stand together through thick and thin and surmount all obstacles; comprehensively elevate the height, breadth, and resilience of China-Russia relations; inject greater stability into world peace and security; and provide stronger impetus for global development and prosperity.

Cai Qi, Wang Yi, and others attended.
