Xi Jinping: Speech at the Reception Commemorating the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China

Ladies and gentlemen, comrades and friends:
Today, we have gathered together to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. First, on behalf of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, I extend festival greetings to the people of all ethnic groups across the country, to the officers and soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army and the People’s Armed Police Force, and to members of the democratic parties and non‑party persons. I offer sincere greetings to compatriots in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Macao Special Administrative Region, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese. I also express heartfelt thanks to the friendly countries and international friends who have long cared about and supported China’s cause of national development.
Over the 76 years since the founding of the new China, under the Party’s leadership the people have relied on their own efforts and continued to struggle, achieving glorious accomplishments recorded in history. Looking back, the Chinese nation has moved from the brink of extinction to great rejuvenation—an arduous path full of hardships, yet also one of high spirits and triumphant songs. Not long ago we solemnly commemorated the 80th anniversary of the Chinese people’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the world’s victory against fascism, which greatly invigorated the national spirit, inspired patriotic enthusiasm, and united our strength to strive. We must continue to draw on historical experience to build the country better, allowing the cause initiated by the older generation of leaders and revolutionary martyrs to flourish ever more.
Comrades and friends!
Since the beginning of this year, faced with a complex situation, we have further deepened reform comprehensively, solidly promoted high‑quality development, focused on safeguarding and improving people’s livelihoods, and advanced the comprehensive and strict governance of the Party in depth, leading to new progress and new achievements in the Party’s and the nation’s undertakings.
Next month, our Party will convene the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee to study and formulate recommendations for the '15th Five‑Year' plan. We must closely center on the Party’s central tasks for the new era and the new journey, well plan and implement the goals, tasks and strategic measures for the '15th Five‑Year' development, and ensure decisive progress in basically realizing socialist modernization.
On the new journey, we must unswervingly implement the 'one country, two systems' principle, support Hong Kong and Macao in better integrating into the country’s overall development and in better developing their economies and improving people’s livelihoods. We must deepen cross‑Strait exchanges and cooperation, firmly oppose 'Taiwan independence' separatist acts and interference by external forces, and resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In the face of an international situation in which once‑in‑a‑-century changes are accelerating, we should vigorously promote the common values of all humanity, practice genuine multilateralism, advance the implementation of the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative and the Global Governance Initiative, and work with all countries to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

The realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is an unprecedented and magnificent undertaking. Both aspirations and challenges inspire our spirit of seizing the day and never relaxing our efforts. Let us unite more closely around the Party Central Committee, forge ahead with determination, work diligently, and strive to compose an even more splendid chapter of Chinese‑style modernization!
