Xi Jinping Issues Important Instructions on the Fire Accident at a Restaurant in Baita District, Liaoyang City, Liaoning Province

At 12:25 on April 29, a fire broke out at a restaurant near the Sanlizhuang resettlement housing complex in the Baita District of Liaoyang City, Liaoning Province. As of 2:00 p.m., the incident had resulted in 22 deaths and 3 injuries.
Following the accident, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People’s Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attached great importance to the incident and issued important instructions, noting that a fire at a restaurant in the Baita District of Liaoyang City, Liaoning Province, had resulted in significant casualties, underscoring a profoundly sobering lesson. He directed that every effort be made to provide emergency medical treatment to the injured, properly handle the aftermath for the deceased and offer comfort to their families, and promptly investigate the cause of the accident while holding those responsible strictly accountable in accordance with the law.
Xi Jinping emphasized that, with the “May Day” holiday approaching, public travel and outings are on the rise and holiday activities are concentrated; therefore, all regions and relevant departments must fulfill their safety responsibilities, refine emergency response plans, conduct thorough inspections for potential risks and hazards, resolutely prevent and curb major safety accidents, and effectively safeguard the lives and property of the people as well as overall social stability.
Li Qiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, issued instructions emphasizing the need to mobilize all resources for search-and-rescue operations and medical treatment of the injured, to properly handle post-incident arrangements for the deceased, and to promptly investigate the cause of the accident and hold those responsible strictly accountable in accordance with laws and regulations. With the “May Day” holiday approaching, the State Council Work Safety Committee is tasked with providing guidance and oversight to ensure that all localities and relevant authorities conduct thorough inspections for safety hazards, strengthen the implementation of workplace safety measures, and rigorously prevent the occurrence of serious and extremely serious accidents.
In accordance with important instructions from Xi Jinping and directives from Li Qiang, the Ministry of Emergency Management has dispatched a working group to the scene to provide guidance on emergency response efforts. The Liaoning Provincial Government and the Liaoyang Municipal Government have mobilized resources to carry out rescue and response operations. At present, on-site rescue and post-incident handling are ongoing.
