Sukha Balka ramps up iron ore production

Ukraine's Sukha Balka, part of DCH Steel, produced 68,000 tonnes of raw iron ore in September, up 36% on-month following planned repairs at the Yuvileina mine, according to the company's corporate newspaper.
Exports last month fell 47% on-month to 63,000t, mostly to Central Europe, while domestic sales were absent.
In January-September, the company produced 673,000t, up by 5% on-year, Kallanish notes. Exports rose by 6% to 671,000t. Most material was exported to the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Serbia.
Sukha Balka has previously said it expects to have better results following the end of the overhauls.
In March, a new block was put into operation, 40-46, at the Yubileynaya mine. Located at the Gnezdo deposit, it contains 141,000t of raw iron ore with an iron content of 60%. Its launch was to ensure stable operations until September and allow the enterprise to meet planned production targets, maintain the stability of the production process and guarantee uninterrupted supplies of raw materials.

Production of commercial iron ore last year amounted to 917,000t, down by 1.5% on-year.
In 2025, the company plans to extract 930,000t raw ore and produce 850,000t of merchant iron ore.

The miner’s main market has traditionally been the domestic market, but after Russia destroyed Metinvest’s Mariupol plants, Sukha Balka has reoriented itself towards Europe and significantly increase exports.
