Türkiye’s confidence index diverges in September

Türkiye’s seasonally adjusted construction confidence index slid by 0.2 points on-month to 83.0 in September, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) says in a note, seen by Kallanish.

The index for building activity over the past three months fell sharply to 87.9 from 93.7 in August, but current overall order books rose by 1.9 points to 80.4. An index above 100 indicates an optimistic outlook while below 100 indicates a pessimistic outlook.

For every 100 companies surveyed, 21.7 indicate that financial constraints are limiting construction activity, down from 25.4 in August. Of those surveyed, 12.3 said there is insufficient demand in September, up from 12.0, and 72.3 indicate no negative factors, up from 68.9 last month.

Türkiye’s consumer confidence index rose by 1.3 points month-on-month to 91.9 in September. Confidence stabilised at 111.9 in services while increasing by 1.1 in retail trade.

Elsewhere, amid high interest rates and difficulties in acquiring loans, Turkish housing sales fell 14.7% year-on-year in August to 127,410 units, according to the TUIK data. Eight-month housing sales fell 6.8% to 950,529 units.
