US steel shipments rise in September

US steel mill shipments rose 3.5% in September compared with August, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

Mills shipped 8.033 million short tons in September, up 12.4% from 7.143m st during the same reporting period in 2024. Year-to-date shipments through the first nine months of 2025 total 68.733m st, 4.6% higher than 65.684m st recorded in the same period last year.

By product category, corrosion-resistant sheet and strip shipments rose 4% year-on-year. Hot rolled sheet and strip shipments declined 1%, whilst cold rolled sheet and strip fell 4%.
