Pengji iron ore mine construction advances

The safety facility design for the Pengji iron ore mining project has been approved by China's National Mine Safety Administration, laying the foundation for project progress, Kallanish notes.
The mine is designed to produce 8 million tonnes/year of raw coal and 2.05m t/y of iron ore concentrates at TFe 65%. It is located in Dongping County, Tai'an City, with a total resource reserve of 234mt, making it the largest single iron ore mine in Shandong Province, according to Shangang.
The project construction will adopt advanced underground mining technology and an efficient magnetic separation process, as it involves a large-scale "Anshan-style" sedimentary metamorphic magnetite deposit.
Shangang holds more than 76% of shares in Shandong Pengji Mining, including the portion held through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Shandong Jinling Iron Mine. The mine will therefore give the firm greater control over its iron concentrate supply chain.
In late 2025, Shandong Jinling Iron Mine said the mine aims to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2029.
