Walsin, Yusco raise prices for seventh consecutive month

Taiwan’s Walsin Lihwa and Yieh United Steel Corp (Yusco) are to further raise their stainless steel product prices for June, marking the seventh consecutive month of increases.

Walsin Lihwa raised its 300-series wire rod prices by TWD 3,000/tonne ($96/t) compared with the prior month, higher than Yusco’s TWD 2,000/t price hike on 300-series hot-rolled and cold-rolled coils, Kallanish notes.

Meanwhile, the surcharge of Yusco’s 316L products increased by TWD 6,000/t. Based on the molybdenum content, Walsin Lihwa raised the price of its 316 products by TWD 7,000/t to TWD 9,000/t.

Rising raw material prices are the main driver of the increases. In addition, Indonesia's reduction of this year's nickel ore mining quotas has further stimulated recent nickel prices.

For 200 and 400 series products, both firms decided to keep prices flat. The former has a low nickel content, while the latter contains no nickel.
