Saudi’s Al Tilal resumes rebar production
Al Tilal Steel Company, an induction furnace rebar producer located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has resumed steelmaking and rolling operations after a temporary shutdown that began in October 2025.
The steelmaker restarted its meltshop at the end of April, while its rolling mill resumed production toward the end of the first week of May, a company senior official has told Kallanish.
“We decided to restructure the business substantially and one of the steps in that direction is splitting scrap processing and steelmaking into two separate business lines,” he adds.
The producer, which has an annual rebar production capacity of around 400,000 tonnes, had suspended operations and sent workers home for seven months amid challenging market conditions in Saudi Arabia’s long products sector.
At the time of the shutdown, market participants cited narrow margins between scrap purchase prices and rebar sales prices, along with weak domestic demand that had kept mill utilisation rates at around 60–70%. Under such conditions, rebar production had become uneconomic for several mills in the kingdom.
Industry participants say the restart reflects a noticeable improvement in operating conditions as producer attempted to normalise production levels following the earlier halt.
Al Tilal is SASO, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and CARES-certified and has been in operation since 2005. It is regarded as an established producer with a solid reputation in the Saudi rebar market. The company is a registered supplier of Saudi Aramco, Ma'aden and the Civil Engineering and Development Department in Hong Kong.
